A woman was shot in the head while driving on the North Freeway Friday morning

HOUSTON -- Police are looking for a driver who shot a woman in rush-hour traffic along the North Freeway inbound lanes in Texas.

Deputy constables with Precinct 4 say around 7 a.m. Friday, the victim, identified as 28-year-old Kay Hafford, got onto the southbound lanes of the I-45 North Freeway somewhere around FM 1960. The woman, driving a red Dodge Avenger, honked her horn at the driver of a white-colored SUV for an unknown reason.

Hafford told constables the driver of the SUV then began to taunt her. That driver then pulled up to the right side of the Hafford's vehicle and opened fire, striking her in the back of the head.

She called 911 and pulled over just before the Richey exit on I-45. Deputy constables say the woman was going in and out of consciousness, but managed to tell them the gunman was a male wearing a blue baseball cap.

Emergency crews rushed her to Hermann Hospital in critical condition. Hafford is now in fair condition. Hospital officials say the bullet fragments are in the bottom portion of her brain.

They will be looking at TXDOT cameras and other surveillance cameras in the area to see if they caught the incident on tape.

Deputies are asking anyone who was in that area at that time and may have seen this road-rage incident to call the Precinct 4 Constable's office at 281-376-3472 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
