Zika virus causes Burbank couple to cancel Mexico wedding
A local couple was forced to call off their dream wedding in Mexico, and they said the Zika virus is to blame.

A local couple was forced to call off their dream wedding in Mexico, and they said the Zika virus is to blame.

Michael Barragan and Brianna Saylor, both from Burbank, had sent out save the date cards and paid for the wedding, but then they found out about the virus in the area.

Their decision comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there is a definitive link between the virus and microcephaly, which causes abnormally small heads in babies.

Pregnant women and those trying to get pregnant have been warned to avoid traveling to the Caribbean and Central and Latin America where the virus is spreading.

The couple said several bridesmaids pulled out of the destination wedding, and they realized they didn't want to risk anyone's future.

"We wanted kids shortly after we get married so it was a big decision we had to make," Saylor said.

Barragan added that Saylor will still get her dream wedding even if it's not in Mexico.
