New photos show Santa Monica mountain lions are thriving

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- The mountain lions who call the Santa Monica Mountains home appear to be alive, well and thriving in new photos released on Wednesday.

The new images are of a mountain lion known as P-19 and her nearly grown kittens, P-32 and P-33. Another sibling has appeared to have left.

A park ranger says kittens normally stay with their mother until they are about one or one-and-a-half years old.

The pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago at the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains, near the Los Angeles-Ventura County line.

The Santa Monica Conservancy has been tracking mountain lions since 2002. This is P-19's second litter.
