JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A three-legged pit bull that suffered from extreme neglect has been adopted from the Riverside County Animal Shelter just in time for the holidays.
Peter, a 2-year-old Queensland heeler pit bull mix, had his left hind leg amputated after a neglected wound mummified the leg, Animal services doctor Alan Drusys said.
Drusys said Peter was one of the worst cases of neglect he had ever seen.
Staff at animal services publicized Peter's story in the hopes he would find his fur-ever home before the end of the year.
Carla Roberts read Peter's story online and came forward to adopt the dog right away. She told the shelter that she wanted to show Peter that there is still good in the world.
