City leaders consider re-branding South Los Angeles as 'SOLA'
South Los Angeles leaders are considering re-branding the community with the name, 'SOLA.'

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- South Los Angeles leaders are considering re-branding the community with the name, "SOLA."

Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks is spearheading the effort to add "SOLA" as the abbreviated alternative for South Los Angeles.

The city previously scrapped the name South-Central Los Angeles in favor of South Los Angeles, feeling the original was negatively associated with the 1992 and 1965 L.A. Riots.

The Los Angeles City Council is expected to debate whether to add the name to the area in the next couple of months.
