LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- As a NASA and Navy team practice recovering the new Orion spacecraft from the ocean, officials offered a sneak peek of NASA's new spacecraft.

A test version of the Orion was put on display on the USS Anchorage Wednesday.

"The guys on the ship and the NASA folks are working to figure out how we get this vehicle out of the water, back on the ship and the crew safely back onto Earth," said NASA astronaut Nicole Stott. "A lot of really interesting stuff going on, getting us ready for that launch."

Officials are hoping Orion can put humans on an asteroid and even on Mars.

Orion's first trip to space will happen in December.
