GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, May 21, is Meri Yedigaryan, whose passion for helping other people has led her to a future career in medicine.

As a volunteer at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Yedigaryan tries to make the most of her time in the hospital.

"Currently I work at the outpatient area. So, it starts off the day with greeting people, translating if we need to and taking people wherever they have to be," she said.

Yedigaryan also sees this as a chance to learn things that you can't necessarily learn in a classroom.

"Since I want to go into the medical field, this is a great opportunity to meet people, understand what doctors go through and just see everything in how a hospital really works," she said.

Yedigaryan has even been nominated to represent California at the upcoming conference of future science and technology leaders.

"If you're given the opportunity to do something and you can actually do it and keep up with it, you should just go for it," she said

Her thirst for knowledge is strong, but her caring heart is still the thing that motivates her the most.

"The satisfaction of knowing that you can help someone. That's mainly it," she said.
