FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A disabled veteran got an amazing gift during a ceremony in Fullerton on Saturday.

Former Marine Cpl. Christopher Van Etten lost his legs to an IED in Afghanistan. He thought his days of riding Harleys were over. But with the help of the Joshua Chamberlain Society and Los Angeles Harley Davidson of Anaheim, Van Etten received a new bike that was specially built for him to ride.

The 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide was installed with a landing gear-type of system. The leg-up gear lifts up when he accelerates. When he slows down, the gear comes down to stabilize the bike. The new Harley also allows Van Etten to shift gears with his hands.

As an added surprise, all of the members of Van Etten's unit made the trip from Twenty-Nine Palms to see the ceremony.
