SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Hundreds of people woke up early on Tuesday and lined up in South Los Angeles for the 32nd annual turkey giveaway hosted by the E.J. Jackson Foundation.

Jackson, the founder of Jackson Limousine Inc., is carrying on a decades-old tradition to make Thanksgiving a little brighter for people in need.

"It's a blessing to have this happen for the people of L.A., especially in these times," Jackson said.

The giveaway bag has all the fixings of a hearty Thanksgiving meal including a 10-12-pound turkey, various fruits, vegetables and canned goods.

There were approximately 10,000 bags all stuffed with food and ready to be handed out.

The event began at 8 a.m. at 3669 W. Slauson Avenue in the Crenshaw District. Many people said they wouldn't have anything to eat on Thanksgiving if it weren't for the annual giveaway.

"I have a whole family to feed with this. A whole family - my mom, my father, my little in-laws, my cousins, everybody, the whole family, and I'm so thankful for this day," said Los Angeles resident Dajahki Underwood.

Hundreds of volunteers helped out at the event including athletes from USC, actors, political leaders and entertainers.

According to the foundation, it has given away more than 415,000 turkey dinners over the years, feeding nearly 206,000 elderly, handicapped and people in need.
