Orange County teens with cancer go through rite of passage: prom

ORANGE, Calif. (KABC) -- They may have missed their first prom, but for a group of teenage cancer patients in Orange County, Saturday was a night to remember.

The Children's Hospital of Orange County held a prom for their patients to enjoy a night of glamour and fun with all their friends.

"It's all about us. It's not about anything else. It's just about having a night to ourselves where we can just feel normal again," prom attendee Kiltee Edgmon said.

Before the party got started, prom goers were treated to two hours of primping courtesy of actress Kristen Bell.

This prom still brought with it all the nerves of a high school prom.

"I'm nervous, but I'm excited too at the same time," 17-year-old Ashley Gomez said.

It was a chance to celebrate new friends and milestones.

When Edgmon attended the prom with two of her friends from the hospital last year, she was bald and in the middle of chemotherapy.

"This year, we all have hair and we're all done with treatment and cancer-free, so it's just cool because we get to look back on the whole last year of our life and say we made it," Edgmon said.
