Dolphins, GM Dennis Hickey part ways

The Miami Dolphins have parted ways with general manager Dennis Hickey after two seasons, the team announced Saturday night.

This means the Dolphins will be searching for a new general manager and a head coach this offseason.

"I want to thank Dennis for his work over the last two years," Dolphins vice president Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement. "We talked about a number of different possibilities, but at the end, we reached this agreement. I have a great deal of respect for what he accomplished here and wish Dennis and his family well."

Dolphins director of college scouting Chris Grier is the leading candidate to replace Hickey as GM, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Hickey's tenure comes to an end as the Dolphins enter Sunday's regular-season finale with a 5-10 record. He had some hits in the draft, such as second-year players Jarvis Landry and Ja'Wuan James, but also had various misses. The Dolphins were 13-18 in Hickey's two seasons in Miami.

"I have been blessed to be the general manager of the Miami Dolphins for the last two seasons, and I want to thank Stephen Ross for giving me this opportunity," Hickey said. "During my time here with the Dolphins, I approached each day with passion, drive and integrity in trying to bring a championship to this proud franchise."

Miami is gearing up for a complete overhaul in 2016 after firing former head coach Joe Philbin in Week 5. The Dolphins are not expected to retain interim coach Dan Campbell.

The Dolphins will host the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots (12-3) on Sunday.
