Former USC quarterback Ricky Town transferring to Arkansas

Former USCquarterback Ricky Town is transferring to Arkansas, the team announced Friday.

"Coach (Bret) Bielema is a great person," Town told ESPN. "I want to be a person like him. This is the first time my family had been to Arkansas and it was great. We fell in love with the place."

Town also had contact withFloridaandAlabamabefore deciding on Arkansas. Town said he fits into the offensive system at Arkansas.

"Great system," Town said. "They said the quarterback is like a coach on the field. Not just simple reads. There are a lot of protections and it's really a chess game. I want to be like a point guard on the field."

Town said USC wasn't the right fit for him offensively and thus he left the school before his freshman season began. Town said he wants to be in a pro-style offense such as the one at Arkansas.

"It was hard," Town, a California native, said. "It wasn't an easy decision. It was close to home. But ultimately my family and friends supported my decision, and that's what's important to me."

Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen is a fifth-year senior, so Town will sit out this season but then have four years of eligibility.

"If I was going to transfer, I wanted to do it immediately as to not lose two years of eligibility," Town said. "I'm excited to compete and to help Arkansas win games. It's a long journey."
