Jackie Young passes Damon Bailey as Indiana's top all-time scorer

Indiana's all-time high school scoring record no longer belongs to Damon Bailey. It is Jackie Young's to savor.

Young, a Notre Dame-bound senior at Princeton (Indiana) High School, became the state's top all-time scorer, by boy or girl, after a 39-point night on Thursday, giving her 3,160 points for her career. Bailey, a former Bedford North Lawrence star, scored 3,134.

"It's an amazing feeling. Just to finally break the record feels great," Young told WEHT after the game.

Young recently passed Shanna Zolman's girls career scoring record of 3,085. According to the Indianapolis Star, Young is averaging 37.8 points per game in 22 games, all Princeton wins. Princeton beat Pike Central on Thursday, 79-33.

A 6-foot guard, Young is the No. 11 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100 for the 2016 class and signed with Notre Dame in the November early signing period. She recently was named a McDonald's All American.

Bailey, now an assistant coach for the Butler women's basketball team, was made famous by John Feinstein's book "A Season on the Brink." In it, former Hoosiers coach Bobby Knight said Bailey, then in eighth grade, could play for him right then. Bailey went on to star at Bedford North Lawrence, filling high school gyms beyond capacity, before excelling at Indiana.
