Jason Garrett on Greg Hardy's comments: 'We addressed it immediately'

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett spoke with defensive end Greg Hardy regarding his comments about returning "guns blazing," and about the wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

"We just addressed it immediately. That's not how we want to operate as an organization," Garrett said. "Players and coaches in our organization understand that. We want to distinguish ourselves with our play, not with what we say. We want to define ourselves with what we do not by what we say. I think Greg understands that now and that's how we want to proceed going forward."

Garrett said Hardy was receptive, respectful and appreciated the coach's comments, "and hopefully he will handle it the right way going forward."

Hardy made the comments Tuesdayin his first remarks since joining the Cowboys in March.

On Wednesday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was a little taken aback when informed of Hardy's curious choice of words to describe his return from a four-game suspension stemming from a domestic violence charge.

"I hope I come out guns blazing," Hardy told reporters Tuesday.

It was an odd statement to make, considering that assault weapons and shotguns were part of Hardy's alleged assault from May 2014 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"Oh my goodness," Jones told SI.com when informed of Hardy's remarks.
