Jayson Werth charged in July

Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth is facing a misdemeanor reckless driving charge after being pulled over July 6 for going 105 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The incident took place in Fairfax County, Virginia, according to online court documents.

Werth, the NL player of the month for July, originally had a hearing scheduled for this past Friday, but it has been continued to Nov. 12.

"The Washington Nationals have been in communication with right fielder Jayson Werth regarding this situation for multiple weeks," a team spokesperson said in a statement. "Jayson is cooperating with the authorities. As it is an ongoing legal matter, the team has no further comment."

Werth, 35, has a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder and will sit out for at least a few days after receiving a cortisone injection Wednesday. He is hitting .279 with 12 home runs and 63 RBIs this season.

Nationals manager Matt Williams said Werth "should be good to go" after giving the shot a few days to take effect.
