Minor knee sprain leaves Lonzo Ball out vs. Grizzlies

MEMPHIS -- Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball has a minor left knee sprain after the rookie underwent an MRI, the team said Sunday.

Ball won't play Monday against the Grizzlies, the team said prior to tipoff. He is day to day.

Brandon Ingram (ankle sprain) also won't face Memphis.

Ball woke up with knee soreness Sunday, and the team sent the No. 2 overall pick to undergo an MRI in Memphis.

Ball played 43 minutes during a 107-101 overtime win in Dallas on Saturday. The team said Ball was injured during the game. The Lakers on Monday signed point guard Gary Payton II, who was with Milwaukee earlier this season, to a two-way contract.

Ball missed six games several weeks ago due to a strained left shoulder. He has averaged 11.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.6 steals in the five games he has played following the shoulder injury. The Lakers have won four straight, with Ball playing some of his most consistent basketball of the season.
