PASADENA, Calif. - UCLAcoach Jim Mora has a legitimate gripe with an obvious home-field disadvantage at the Rose Bowl.
If playing 114 defensive snaps in the Bruins' 35-31 win against Coloradoon Saturday wasn't fatiguing enough, Mora noted that standing in and staring into the sun on the east side sideline for a noon kickoff made things worse.
"We played a gazillion plays and it was 1,000 degrees and we're standing there facing the sun for some reason," Mora said. "Of course we were hot. I turned around one time and put my back to the sun and said, 'This is a 10-degree difference with the sun at my back opposed to my face. Hell yeah, they were fatigued.
"We'll figure that one out sometime, why we're facing the sun. I don't know why. I'm sure someone could tell me. I haven't been here long enough. I'm a newbie."
With temperatures reaching the low 90s, UCLA's sideline, which is backed up by the student section, remained in the sun the entire game, while Colorado had the benefit of shade in the second half.
Asked if he'll ask for a sideline switch in the future, Mora backtracked, but his point was already made.
"That's not up to me. I don't care about that, I was just teasing," he said "I couldn't care less."
