In DeMarco Murray, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant, the Cowboys'Tony Romo has at his disposal a running back-tight end-wide receiver combo worthy of the envy of many starting quarterbacks. But Romo doesn't have a Super Bowl ring, and that's a fact that Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones says falls squarely on his family.

"I think he'd be the first to tell you, anybody would, the only thing missing on his rsum at this point is a championship," Jones said Wednesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "And certainly that doesn't sit in Tony's lap. That sits in our lap, [owner] Jerry [Jones] and our family's lap.

"In terms of the organization, we have to do better at putting better people around him. It falls on our personnel department, the coaching staff and the players around him. It's a team effort."

At 7-3 and in their bye week, the Cowboys sit a half-game behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. Romo has been a lightning rod of criticism for the Cowboys, as playoff success has not followed prolific regular seasons.

The Cowboys have missed the playoffs in each of the past four seasons, sometimes stumbling down the stretch, and their victory over the Eagles in 2009 was their first in the postseason since Dec. 28, 1996, a span of 4,760 days. The skid included six losses, and a seventh would have set an NFL futility record.

So, until the Cowboys get over the hump, Jones said Romo will not be afforded the accolades given the league's other top quarterbacks.

"I think the only thing missing is the ring, the championship," Jones said. "I think that's going to ultimately come for Tony. I hope sooner than later, as I know we all do. At the end of the day, all these quarterbacks, more important than any of their numbers, any of their accolades, any Pro Bowls, any All-Pros, is to win championships.

"I think when Tony ultimately gets his, then I think certainly at that point there will be no second-guessing anything."
