The Pac-12 names Dillon Brooks Player of the Year, Lonzo Ball Freshman of the Year

The Pac-12 announced the 2016-17 men's basketball all-conference award recipients on Monday. Dillon Brooks, a junior forward for the Oregon Ducks, was named Player of the Year. Lonzo Ball, the freshman standout guard for the UCLA Bruins, earned Freshman of the Year honors.

Each year, the conference's 12 coaches vote for each category. The other award recipients for this season include junior forward Jordan Bell from Oregon (Defensive Player of the Year), sophomore forward Chimezie Metu of the USC Trojans (Most Improved Player of the Year) and coach Sean Miller of the Arizona Wildcats (John R. Wooden Coach of the Year).

Brooks is the second Duck to be named Pac-12 Player of the Year the past three years, but he is just the fifth player from Oregon to receive the award. He was named a preseasonAssociated Press first-team All-American. During regular-season play, Brooks averaged 16.0 points per game.

Ball averaged 14.9 PPG and set a league record for assists by a freshman in a season, with 241 (7.8 APG).

The Pac-12 tournament will be held in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena beginning Wednesday and running through Saturday.
