Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig pulled up with hamstring tightness while running to first base during a rehabilitation assignment game for Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. It is a development that could keep him on the disabled list longer than planned.
The Dodgers said Puig will be re-evaluated Saturday in Los Angeles.
Puig was working his way back from a strained left hamstring, and the Dodgers were hopeful he would rejoin them Monday before their game with the Miami Marlins, but this could set his return back at least several days. He is eligible to return Sunday, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly ruled that out before the team's game Friday in Colorado.
Mattingly said Puig was expected to play six or seven innings in the outfield Friday night, but he left in the fifth. Puig, who was batting .279 with two home runs, was put on the disabled list April 26.
