In what could possibly change the way people communicate their hunger through text and online forever, a taco emoji might be coming to your smartphone this year. And Taco Bell wants to make sure it happens.

Unicode Consortium, a non-profit that regulates the coding standards for written computer text that includes emojis, announced that it had accepted 37 new emoji characters as candidates to be considered to be included as standard emoji sometime in mid-2015. Seeing that a taco emoji was included on the list of candidates, Taco Bell says it "needs to happen."

Creating a Change.org petition to gather up online support for the possible new emoji, Taco Bell believes that its cuisine has, in the past, been unfairly left out.

"Why do pizza and hamburger lovers get an emoji but taco lovers don't?," wrote Taco Bell on the online petition. "Here's a better question: why do we need four different types of mailboxes? Or 25 different types of clocks? Or a VCR tape and floppy disk emoji? No one even uses those things anymore."

The Change.org petition has already gained more than 21,000 signatures of the 25,000 goal.

"America wants a taco emoji. America needs a taco emoji," concluded Taco Bell.

A full list of the candidates includes various animal, zodiac and religious symbols, but the most popular requests are hot dog, taco, burrito, bottle with popping cork, popcorn, turkey, unicorn face and cheese wedge.
