I-5 crash in Burbank: Driver of vintage roadster injured
The driver of a vintage roadster was critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound 5 Freeway in Burbank early Friday morning.

BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- The driver of a vintage roadster was critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound 5 Freeway in Burbank early Friday morning.

The crash, which happened before 2 a.m. near Olive Avenue, involved two Toyota vehicles and a 1940s Ford.

The driver of the vintage car was heading northbound when he lost control for an unknown reason and slammed into the median. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. The roadster landed on its side and was hit by two oncoming vehicles.

The ejected driver was rushed to the hospital in severe critical condition. The other two drivers are expected to be OK.

"The first vehicle is an old rat rod, it's a 1940 Ford. These vehicles don't have any seatbelts. They're not required to have any seatbelts. Unfortunately, because you aren't restrained as a driver, a traffic collision will cause you to often get ejected," said Sgt. Saul Gomez with the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
