Drivers reconsider travel due to high gas prices
Although gas prices have continued to go down, people say it is still too expensive to travel during Memorial Day weekend.

SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Although gas prices have continued to go down, people say it is still too expensive to travel during Memorial Day weekend.

The Auto Club said about 2,7 million Southern Californians will be heading out over the weekend, and more than 4.4 million nationwide will do the same.

About 83 percent of those people are expected to travel by car, but many that Eyewitness News spoke to said the cost of gas is putting a damper on their holiday getaway plans.

The price of gasoline has dropped five times within the last six days after rising 28 times within the last month. The average price of gasoline is 5.1 cents lower than one week ago, but 71.9 centers higher than one month ago. The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped to $3.96.

The average price in Orange County dropped 1.8 cents to about $3.94 per gallon. That is 5.6 cents lower than one week ago, but 71.1 cents higher than a month ago.

The spike in gas prices started because of what experts called a "refinery issue." That issue has since been resolved and has resulted in the slow drop in prices.

Still, motorists said the drop in price is not enough to change the overall dent in their wallet to fill up their tanks.
