ROME (KABC) -- Crews in Rome are working to repair damage caused by a tourist at the Colosseum.

The Russian tourist carved a large "K" onto a wall of the ancient structure. The 42-year-old was spotted last Friday using a large stone to carve the letter.

He has been fined $25,000 and was given a suspended sentence of four years in prison.

Vandalism is a huge problem at some of Rome's ancient sites. The walls around the edge of the Colosseum are covered with carved names.

This was the fifth incident of vandalism by a tourist in the past year.
