A new shuttle service is being launched to connect Santa Monica to the Los Angeles International Airport.

The popular FlyAway shuttle service that brings travelers to the terminals at LAX is coming to Santa Monica on Tuesday. Passengers who use the shuttle will no longer have to deal with traffic on the 405 Freeway or parking around the airport.

Santa Monica is only about eight miles from LAX, but depending on traffic, traveling those miles can take some time. The new service will help alleviate traffic.

"We are looking forward to getting more and more people out of their cars for a convenient transportation from their place of origin to LAX," said Gina Marie Lindsey, executive director of Los Angeles World Airports.

FlyAway shuttle customers will pay $8 for the one-way service that will pick them up from Santa Monica Civic Auditorium hourly from 5:45 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. But there is nowhere to park your car, so travelers will have to be dropped off.

"It's going to make it easier for people from all around the state, from all around the world, to come to Santa Monica and we welcome them," said Santa Monica Mayor Pam O'Connor.

It's all part of a larger project to ease traffic and make LAX and Los Angeles more accessible.

"We are building a stronger region by investing in critical infrastructure like LAX, making it easier for tourists to get around and easier for locals to get to LAX and reducing traffic for all of us," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

The shuttle service will expand to Hollywood in about a month. The shuttle already leaves from various locations, including Union Station, Westwood, Exposition Boulevard and Van Nuys.
