LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A heat wave continues this weekend in Southern California and the valleys will get the worst of it.

There will be potential record-breaking heat, especially Sunday into Monday.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 100s in the Inland Empire, Valleys and High Desert. The Los Angeles-Metro area and Orange County will see upper-90s. The mountains will enjoy cooler temps in the upper-70s.

Because of Southern California's warm weather, Los Angeles County lifeguard officials say this year's attendance at the county's beaches has already soared well above the annual average.

As of Monday, more than 61.4 million people had already hit L.A. county beaches, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division. That's up from an average of 54.8 million in previous years. The number of ocean rescues has also gone up.
