VALENCIA, Calif. (KABC) -- A red-flag warning is in effect for Southern California mountain and foothill areas due to gusty winds, rising temperatures and low humidity.

Highs on Tuesday were expected in the upper 80s, with humidity only at 14 percent.

The conditions have fire crews mobilized and ready to jump on any spot fires that could potentially become a major wildfire if not put out quickly.

"The fire department has prepared by deploying strike teams throughout the county. We have an additional 32 firefighters staffing extra engines," said Randall Wright of the L.A. County Fire Department. "These are the times that small fires can become large fires, and our goal is to put them out before they become a large fire."

The red-flag warning covers L.A. and Ventura counties, as well as the Inland Empire and Orange County. It will be in effect until Thursday at 5 p.m.

Authorities reminded the public that if you see any smoke, report it to your local fire agency.
