LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The bodies of three Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives who were killed in an explosion at a training facility were moved ahead of their funeral services.

All three of their bodies were escorted Friday morning by a solemn procession from the medical examiner's office in Lincoln Heights to a mortuary in Covina.

Firefighters used aerial ladders to hoist American flags on overpasses along the route. They stood at attention and saluted as the hearses passed on the freeway below.

Deputy Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Deputy Victor Lemus, and Deputy William Osborn died last week at a training facility in East L.A. They were moving grenades, which were believed to have been inert, when they exploded.

Outside the facility on Friday, a makeshift memorial continued to grow -- comprised of flowers, candles, baseball caps, flags and handwritten tributes to the fallen deputies.

A woman named Lupe, who declined to give her last name, brought flowers to the memorial and had a message for the deputies' families: "You're not alone, that you're in our hearts as well and we'll keep praying for you."

The men were described as elite members of the Special Enforcement Bureau's Arson Explosives Detail, with a collective 74 years of service. Between them, the three men leave behind 16 children.

The sheriff's department said details regarding memorial services will be announced in the coming days.
