Dr. Hamid Mirshojae was ambushed and shot in the parking lot outside his medical office in the 5900 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard in what the district attorney called a murder-for-hire plot organized and funded by the doctor's ex-wife, Ahang Mirshojae.
Investigators say Ahang Mirshojae put together a crew of four other people, including Evan Hardman, who is accused of pulling the trigger.
The others are charged with supplying the weapon and helping Hardman escape.
But now, even though Ahang Mirshojae is behind bars awaiting trial, the doctor's widow says the ex-wife is still plotting to get things like Hamid Mirshojae's real estate and other properties, not only for herself but for the three grown children she had with the doctor.
"We are seeking to possibly unwind some financial transactions that the ex-wife engaged in in connection with the murder-for-hire plot," said Alex Guerrero, an attorney representing Ghazal Simorgh, the widow. "We do believe that there's been assets that have been hidden and or moved to avoid any kind of civil forfeiture."
Simorgh has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Ahang Mirshojae and the four others accused in the killing, hoping to get possession of any assets that were wrongly transferred.
"I live with fear every day after my husband's murder," Simorgh said. "I try to be strong for my daughter, and I just want justice."
