Old Water Fire: San Bernardino brush fire prompts mandatory evacuations, school and road closures

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A wind-driven vegetation fire that erupted along Highway 18 in San Bernardino prompted mandatory evacuations and several closures Thursday, officials said.

The fire, dubbed the Old Water Fire, was burning near Old Waterman Canyon Road and Highway 18, according to San Bernardino County Fire. Firefighters worked to protect structures as gusty conditions threatened to spread the blaze.

EVACUATION CENTER
An evacuation center was set up at San Gorgonio High School, located at 2299 Pacific Street

SCHOOL CLOSURES
Several schools were closed due to power shutoffs or the potential for outages:

-All Fillmore Unified and Mupu Unified schools and facilities closed Thursday and Friday
-Cal State San Bernardino
-College of the Canyons
-Paakuma' K-8 School

-40th St and Harrison Ave
-40th St and Valencia Ave
-40th St and Waterman Ave
-48th St and Waterman Ave
-All upbound and downbound lanes of Lower Waterman Canyon
