California Water Service Company repair to hit Leona Valley supply

LEONA VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- The California drought will hit Leona Valley harder after California Water Service Company announced last week's storms damaged an important aqueduct.

Cal Water said the majority of water provided to the area comes from the Antelope Valley - East Kern Water Agency (AVEK).

The California Aqueduct, which supplies water to AVEK, was damaged last week, according to Cal Water.

Emergency repairs on the aqueduct will be conducted and water will be shut off to Leona Valley on Wednesday. The repair is expected to take about a month to complete.

Officials are urging residents to conserve water until further notice.

All outdoor water should be eliminated unless necessary and Cal Water is also asking residents to reduce indoor water-use as much as possible.

Groundwater wells and trucking water will be used in the meantime by Cal Water to help service the area.
