Early voters wait in line for hours to cast ballots in NoHo

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Early voters lined up around the North Hollywood library Saturday for hours, and those who were in line by 4 p.m. were allowed to vote even after the polls closed.

Many people who had waited hours in line celebrated after casting their ballots.

"You know after three or four hours, you're not going to give up - darn it!" Jolie Key said.

Last weekend more than 7,700 votes were cast in Los Angeles County's six early voting locations. Officials expect that number may be even higher this weekend.

A similar scene happened in Culver City as voters officially chose their candidates. Many turned out early because they didn't want to miss a chance to make their voice heard for this year's election.

Despite the long lines and even longer wait, those who turned out said it was all worth it for our democracy.

"I think it's important. Your vote does count. It does make a difference. I think it's important that everyone exercise their right to vote, regardless of who they're voting for or what they're voting for," Van Nuys resident Johnny Jones said.

There will be another day of long lines Sunday. No matter how long it may take, the six early voting sites will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Those in line by closing time will still be able to vote.
