LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A strong thunderstorm swept through parts of the Southland on Sunday, dropping heavy rain and even hail in some areas.
ABC7 viewers reported seeing hail in Sherman Oaks, Chatsworth and Venice, and heavy rain also soaked Santa Monica, Venice, Brentwood and other communities. By evening, the heavy rain moved south to Orange County.
The showers were very scattered, with some areas receiving heavy downpours while others saw no rain at all.
Plane pilots reported seeing funnel clouds over the ocean about 25 miles off Redondo Beach.
A Los Angeles Sheriff's Department patrol helicopter made a precautionary landing at Hart High School at about 3:18 p.m. Sunday after a few lightning strikes were reported south of Santa Clarita.
