1 man killed, 2 others wounded in shooting stemming from argument at Monrovia bar

MONROVIA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 43-year-old man was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting overnight Friday that stemmed from an argument at a bar in Monrovia, according to authorities.

The incident began shortly before midnight when the gunman and his companions entered the Gem City Grill in the 100 block of Olive Avenue "and got into an argument with other patrons," sheriff's investigators said in a statement, citing witnesses' accounts.

"The argument escalated into a fight at which time one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and started shooting," the news release said. The shooter, described only as an adult male, fled the scene with his fellow suspects.

Monrovia Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired at the location, where they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured were transported to a hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead.

The wounded men, who are both 24 years old, are expected to survive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The identity of the deceased man was not immediately released.

On Saturday afternoon, a SWAT team responded to the 200 block of Olive Avenue, just a block away from the scene of the shooting. Officers were seen surrounding a residence, going door-to-door in the area.

It was confirmed the police activity was related to the shooting, but the sheriff's department did not immediately disclose what officials were doing there.

A detective at the scene later confirmed two suspects were taken into custody, but officials believe the person who fired the shots is still outstanding. A detailed description of the gunman was not available.
