Made in Hollywood celebrates TV industry job creation in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- TV shows shot in Hollywood help keep production money in California, and on Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council recognized 18 Emmy Award-nominated shows with its Made in Hollywood honors.

While each show is up for an Emmy Award, more importantly, they're also shot in Hollywood.

Made in Hollywood celebrated TV work returning to the Golden State for those in front of and behind the camera.

"It means so much. There's nothing like waking up in your own bed, in your own home and getting into your car and going to work and doing something that you're absolutely passionate and being able to share that journey with your family and friends right here," Noree Victoria, actress in "The People v. O.J. Simpson," said.

Producers for shows like "Blackish," "Modern Family," and "Veep" we're all honored at the event.

State incentives put in place a year ago were to thank for much of the credit of keeping the work local.

"In one year we already increased production to the tune of $1.5 billion in direct spending to the state," Amy Lemisch, executive director of the California Film Commission, explained. "That's a lot of people employed, a lot of small businesses, and the studio facilities are really busy."

While the incentive program allows the stars to stay close to home, officials said it really benefits blue collar workers who are at full employment at the moment.

"The beautiful part about our incentive is that it's a below the line incentive, which means it's for working class people," Steve Dayan with Teamsters Local 399 Hollywood said.
