DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The 101 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles was closed for hours Tuesday, snarling traffic during the afternoon rush hour.
The California Highway Patrol closed freeway lanes in both directions near Temple Street due to a man threatening to jump off an overpass, officials said. Los Angeles firefighters and police responded to the scene around 5:16 p.m.
AIR7 showed traffic at a standstill in the area as drivers faced significant delays. Traffic was backed up for miles.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said that the man threatening to jump was taken into custody. He was treated by paramedics and was expected to be taken to a hospital.
Authorities later reopened the freeway.
