Corey McClendon was taken into custody after Adolph Thornton Jr., a 32-year-old rapper from Memphis, was shot during an altercation in front of a Shoe Palace store at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue.

McClendon is being held on $1 million bail, according to police.

The Hollywood shooting was reported shortly after 1 p.m. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police said the rapper was involved in a confrontation with three people that started as a verbal argument and escalated into a physical altercation. Young Dolph fell to the ground and one of the three people started shooting, police said.

Chief Charlie Beck said rapper Young Dolph has been shot at "all over the United States," and urged tourists not to be afraid to visit Hollywood.

Young Dolph was able to get up and run into the Shoe Palace store while the three men fled in different directions. One man jumped into a gold-colored Escalade and drove a short distance, then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Young Dolph has been active as a rapper since 2008, with greater commercial success coming more recently with the release of his 2016 album "King of Memphis," which made it to No. 49 on the Billboard U.S. charts and No. 5 in the U.S. rap category.

He has 2.2 million followers on Instagram.

Young Dolph was also involved in a shooting earlier this year, in which his SUV was riddled with 100 bullets during a February appearance in North Carolina.

He later released a song titled "100 Shots" and his latest album is titled "Bulletproof."
