EL SERENO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A six-acre brush fire broke out and was burning uphill near El Sereno and Lincoln Heights before it was extinguished by firefighters Friday.

The blaze was reported around 1 p.m. at 2580 N. Soto St. near Mission Avenue. No structures were threatened, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Fire officials launched a ground and aerial response to the fire, which was consuming medium-level grass.

The LAFD was assisted by crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The University of Southern California sent a campus alert to inform students at its Health Sciences Campus about the blaze.

According to the university, the northbound lanes of Soto Street were closed near the scene.
