Auto shop worker caught on red-light cam driving customer's car at 3am

CANBY, Ore. (KABC) -- A woman in Canby, Oregon, says she dropped her car off at the body shop, and then got a red-light ticket in the mail with a photo of two strangers in her car at 3 a.m.

The woman took her car to the shop after her 2001 Mitsubishi Montero didn't pass an emissions test. She said the shop had good reviews online.

She paid $2,300 for the repairs, but then she received a call from a shop employee saying she'd be receiving a traffic ticket.

"He did call my husband and said one of our technicians was driving it around, and he thinks he ran a red light," she said.

The couple did not think much of it at first, thinking her vehicle was being driven during business hours. When the ticket arrived a day later, they were stunned to see the time of the incident was 2:59 a.m.

The store's owner admitted that the man behind the wheel was his son, Tommy, who is the shop foreman, and he was with a female friend.

"We were so frustrated because you take your car in, you spend thousands of dollars with the company, and then it's like, they smack you across the face by doing stuff like this," the woman said.

The shop's owner says his son drove the car all weekend on purpose to run the car through a "drive cycle."

But the owner of the vehicle isn't buying it and says all she really wanted was an apology.
