ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Morgan Wilson, the 17-year-old student-athlete from Orange County who suddenly collapsed last week, has died.

Wilson was running a few laps at Boysen Park in Anaheim last Wednesday when she collapsed.

Doctors at UC Irvine Medical Center said she went into cardiac arrest and placed her in an induced coma. The reason is not known.

Wilson was a captain on the tennis team at Esperanza High School, and a well-conditioned athlete who ran between four to five miles every day.

Her parents, Scott and Debbie Wilson, released a statement thanking everyone for their support and noting that Morgan had registered as an organ donor, which they hope might save other lives.

"Like so many things in her life, this reminds us what a generous and selfless soul she has," the statement read.
