LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The new musical comedy "Galavant" comes to ABC this weekend. The stars of the show say viewers will get songs, laughs and something more than a little different.

Joshua Sasse plays the title role in "Galavant." The evil King Richard has stolen away his lady, and now, the fallen hero is out for revenge. But there's plenty of adventure -- and song -- along the way.

"I'm not interested in doing something that's been done before. That's no longer art. That's imitation, so that's my main fix for this -- that every single day we're doing something completely different, completely on the edge, very tongue-in-cheek and off-kilter. That's interesting. That's funny," said Sasse.

"You like 'Monty Python'? You like 'Princess Bride'? 'Spamalot'? 'Men in Tights'? That kind of thing? Just imagine that with music and a lot of laughs," said Karen David, who plays Isabella.

The music comes from Disney composers Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. Vinnie Jones also gets to sing, but the movie tough guy who knows his way around a weapon is happier about something else.

"Knuckle dusters, spikes, but the thing is--no matter how many weapons I get, I always seem to get killed at the end of it. This show I haven't been killed! I'm so pleased!" said Jones.

The first two episodes of "Galavant" air back-to-back beginning Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC7.
