Everytable offers nutritious meals for $4.50 in low income areas
Two finance guys opened an affordable restaurant chain offering nutritious food at affordable prices.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In a health-conscious city like L.A., it isn't difficult to find really good nutritious food that tastes good, but you'll usually pay a pretty penny for it, which is why two former finance guys came up with the idea of Everytable.

"Everytable is a social enterprise that makes healthy food affordable for everyone," said Sam Polk, co-founder of Everytable.

Polk says the idea sprouted from Groceryship, another program he created three years ago that helps educate those who don't have access to healthy fare, learn how to shop smarter and cook better. It is something desperately needed in areas like South L.A.

"In South Los Angeles, per capita income is $13,000 a year, and life expectancy is 10 years lower than in Pacific Palisades. We wanted to start a business that made healthy meals a human right for everyone," said Polk.

And now they have with their first location at Union and 23rd street in South L.A.

"Everyday when you walk in, the meals are going to be there ready for you -- kid tested, mother approved. All the meals, actually, that are on the menu, have been tested throughout the community for months," said David Foster, co-founder of EveryTable.

Puebla chicken tinga and pork posole are a few of their good hearty options. Foster says the goal of the meals is to be filling and economical too.

"The prices are going to be $2.95 for kids meals, going up to $3.95 to $4.50 for adult meals," said Foster.

The next store is scheduled for downtown in November, where prices will average $8. Their plan is to open at least 20 stores.

While $4.50 is a bargain, but free is even better. This Saturday at 11 a.m., they're opening their first store in South L.A., where you can try their meals promotionally.

Along with test driving the menu, there will also be a band, bounce house and face painting until 3 p.m.
