Jon Favreau, Roy Choi host El Jefe pop-up

FAIRFAX DISTRICT, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- "Chef" writer and director Jon Favreau teamed up with celebrity chef Roy Choi Wednesday for a special pop-up event at Animal restaurant in the Fairfax District.

The pop-up featured Cubano sandwiches to honor the film's El Jefe food truck.

Choi, best known as the creator of the gourmet Korean taco truck Kogi, acted as a food consultant on the film.

"While we were promoting the film we started doing pop-ups to have people try the food, and now it caught on so much that we want to keep it going," Favreau said.

Wednesday night's theme was New Orleans, which is also one of the cities El Jefe visits in the film.
