CHINATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A freight train derailed Friday morning in the Chinatown area of Los Angeles.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or a hazmat situation in the five-car derailment, which occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Main and Lamar streets. The train cars, two of which are for automotive transport, remained upright after the crash.
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene, near a UPS facility just north of Union Station.
Metrolink and Metro Gold Line service were not affected by the incident, according to the agencies.
The cause of the derailment was unknown.
