REDDING, Calif. (KABC) -- A 91-year-old WWII veteran from Redding is running across the country to raise money and awareness for a cause close to his heart.
Ernie Andrus wants to send a decommissioned naval ship back to Normandy, France, for a 75th memorial service, so he's running to raise the funds to get it there.
Andrus started his coast-to-coast journey in San Diego. He says he wants to make sure people don't forget his war.
"They should know. You just don't want them to forget those things," said Andrus.
Andrus started his runs in October 2013. So far, he's gone as far as New Mexico.
After a short holiday break, Andrus plans to get back on the trail this week, heading section by section toward his goal of Brunswick, Georgia.
