ARCADIA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was killed and his daughter-in-law was wounded in a shooting that occurred inside a car in the Chantry Flat area of the Angeles National Forest, authorities said.
The wounded 33-year-old woman had no cellphone reception at the scene, so she drove south to Arcadia and was able to call 911 at about 2 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies and paramedics responded to the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and St. Joseph Street, where a man in his 50s was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body, said sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman had been shot in the lower body, the lieutenant said. She was expected to survive after being transported to a hospital.
The man and woman were not immediately identified.
A handgun was recovered, according to investigators, and the vehicle's roof was found to be slightly damaged.
The shooting was being investigated as a domestic dispute.
Homicide detectives from the sheriff's department were taking over the investigation.
