Massive fire erupts at apartment complex in Stevenson Ranch; 20 units deemed uninhabitable

STEVENSON RANCH, Calif. (KABC) -- A dramatic fire broke out early Friday morning at an apartment complex in Stevenson Ranch, forcing dozens of families to evacuate their homes.

The blaze erupted about 1 a.m. on the third floor at the Parc Chateaux Apartment Homes in the 24900 block of Constitution Avenue. The flames made their way into an attic and quickly spread as they were fanned by winds.

The occupants of 20 units, some of whom described an "explosion," were displaced as firefighters extinguished the fire.

"When we went outside we just saw an inferno in our balcony," said Nelanny, who asked to identified only by her first name. "And then we got out. We started knocking on doors and saying 'help' and stuff. So people got out eventually."

No serious injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The Red Cross was assisting residents whose apartments were deemed uninhabitable.
