1 dead, 1 hospitalized in Gardena big rig crash

GARDENA, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed and another was hospitalized after a head-on collision between a vehicle and a big rig in Gardena on Wednesday, Los Angeles County fire officials said.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. in the 1200 block of E. El Segundo Boulevard, according to authorities. Firefighters had to use jaws of life to free both victims from the car.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of El Segundo Boulevard were closed from Normandie to Budlong avenues as the investigation remained ongoing.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
