CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed after a fiery crash involving a bus full of college students on the 71 Freeway in Chino Hills.

The San Diego Christian College basketball team was heading back to San Diego after a game in Bakersfield, when the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on the 71 South at Grand Avenue.

Chino Valley Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Stuart said the bus and car crashed into each other, immediately sparking a fire.

Both vehicles went up in flames, and the person driving the car was killed at the scene, he said.

Crews said good Samaritans pulled over, helped the bus driver out and helped get all 19 students to safety as the bus started to ignite.

The cause of the collision was still under investigation, according to Stuart.
