1800 acres burned in brush fire north of Glendora; no containment
GLENDORA, Calif. (KABC) -- A brush erupted in the hills north of Glendora, scorching 1,800 acres and destroying at least one cabin and three other structures Friday afternoon. The fire was 0 percent contained.
The blaze was reported just after 1 p.m. The U.S. Forest Service said the wildfire was located three miles north of Rincon Red Box Road off Highway 39.
Crews were dealing with heavy to medium brush, with winds moving south. About 400 fire personnel were on scene.
About 40 people were evacuated from Little Jimmy Trail Camp, West Fork Area, East Fork Area, Coldbrook and Crystal Lake campgrounds.
Five firefighters were evacuated with minor injuries, two suffering from heat exhaustion. Highway 39 was shut down from the bottom of Old San Gabriel Canyon Road to the intersection of Highway 2.
The cause is under investigation.
